The pandemic appears to be inspiring more people to tie the knot.

In a survey from Brides Magazine, 82% of people say living through a pandemic has changed how they look at marriage—and they want a partner to get through the pandemic.

Charlotte Interfaith Wedding Minister Rev. Rebecca Nagy is seeing this firsthand. Not only is she already booking into next year, but she’s seeing more elopements.

“Big, big time,” Nagy said. "I would say 15% of my weddings this year are elopements.”

She adds she’s booked earlier than she has been in previous years.

“Sometimes couples will call me a year ahead of time,” Nagy said. “But I’m already booking into 2023. This is one of the biggest years in many years.”

Nagy adds she’s booked with a lot of vow renewals and smaller weddings.

She says a new trend is on the rise, called a microwedding. The ceremony for a mircowedding may be traditional, but the wedding guests are far fewer.
