CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Duke University beat The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill during Saturday’s game with a final score of 87 to 67.
The Duke VS UNC game is often described as one of the greatest rivalries in college basketball
For Duke’s head coach, Mike Krzyzewski, this was his last game against the Tar Heels
For UNC, this was the first rivalry match up for their new head coach, Hubert Davis
In preparation, basketball fans lined up outside the Dean Smith Center. For Duke’s head coach, Mike Krzyzewski, this was his last game against the Tar Heels. For UNC, this was the first rivalry match up for their new head coach, Hubert Davis.
“I’m excited to be here for the rivalry. It’s the best college rivalry in college basketball. This is the first time me and my wife have come to a Carolina/Duke game. I’m excited and ready to get in to here and root for my team,” Monte Kornegay, a Duke fan, said. “Just the energy. The fan base is always great from both sides. I love the competition between me and my friends and everyone else.”
“It’s Hubert Davis’ first game against Duke as a coach. It’s just special. It’s really special to be here tonight,” Rushil Shah, a senior at UNC, said.
Tickets to Saturday’s game were hard to come by and not cheap but some fans got lucky.
“It wasn’t hard, I mean sort of. It was a long process. It was months of work going to lots of games for Carolina fever to get tickets and everything,” McKinley Windram, a freshman at UNC, said.
“We actually got lucky. Someone was selling their tickets and I just so happened to jump online and got them. I was just looking. Basically we bought them last week,” Kornegay said. “Couldn’t miss it. Could not miss it. That’s one of the reasons why I was like ‘man I got to go.’ This is the last time. This is a great opportunity to see him coach for the last time.”
