LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Lincoln County mother Pattie Sisk says she and her son, William McCarter loved to fish.

The two would talk everyday, either by phone or her 37-year-old son would swing by her home off Highway 27.

What You Need To Know

  • William McCarter's mother Pattie Sisk last saw her son June 29

  • McCarter's body was found in the woods off Smith Farm Road in Lincolnton on July 13

  • The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office ruled it a homicide and has offered a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest

Sisk says her son was always helping the homeless. In fact, on the last day she saw her son, which was June 29, they bought some food for a homeless couple, who were heading to Florida. Sisk says that night was the last time she saw or spoke to her son.

The following day, she received a text from him, which she knew didn't sound like him.

“We always say 'I love you, momma,' and I always say 'I love you, son,' and a big heart and a big kiss, this had 'I love you T.O.,'" she said.

She filed a missing person's report with the sheriff's office. Two weeks later on July 13, McCarter's body was found in the woods off Smith Farm Road in Lincolnton.

Homicides are not a common occurrence in the small town, and it shocked her the way her son's body was found.

After a few months with no arrests, Sisk feared her son's case would go cold, but then a $10,000 reward was donated to the sheriff's office, and is offered for information that could lead to an arrest.

“Which I am very thankful, and the Lord and my God knows how grateful it was the day I got the notice of the $10,000 reward. I think it is going to be brought to justice, it's just a matter of time. It's in God’s time," said Sisk.

Two of McCarter's friends paid for a large banner that now sits in his mother's front yard.

His picture faces both east and west of Highway 27, hammered down in her front yard with "Justice for Will" printed in bold black letters against a white background.

Sisk says she has already forgiven the person who took her son's life, now all she wants is answers.

"You didn’t have to take his life, if you didn’t like him, you could’ve just walked away," said Sisk.
