NORTH CAROLINA — Students across the state are going back to the classroom, but not before parents or caregivers take a quick picture.

There are mixed emotions about children going back for face-to-face learning. Some parents are happy about the decision, while others are hesitant to send students back during a global pandemic. Many students haven't seen their peers in months and the excitement is strong.

Spectrum News 1 viewers are sharing their photos whether they are at home or back on school grounds.

School staff worked hard to prepare clean classrooms and implement safe learning. An educator could be seen in the background of one photo holding what appeared to be a bottle of sanitizing spray, full and ready to be used.

Children of all grade levels put on those first day outfits, some with masks to match.

Olivia, a first grader, held a sign that explained she wants to be a paleontologist when she grows up. According to the sign, she also loves "making [her] grandma crazy!"

Clothing choices were cheerful, especially for one little girl who posed happily in rainbow shoes and a sequin unicorn shirt.

A little boy standing in the driveway could hardly contain his excitement, with his smile peeking out of his turtle mask.  Want to send in your child's first-day photo? Click here for information.
