PITTSBORO, N.C. — What do homebuyers want in a post-pandemic home? They want Barnaby.

What You Need to Know

Barnaby is the first home intentionally designed in response to the radical changes spurred by the pandemic

The home is 2,600 square feet, with 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths and 2 innovative home office spaces

“Disinfecting things more” was the top behavior change in the home because of COVID-19, and 81% of people said they expect to continue this behavior once it has ended

Barnaby is a model home built in Pittsboro based off of the America at Home Study, which surveyed roughly 7,000 Americans during the pandemic.

The America at Home Study was created by three women who are leaders in the home building industry — Nancy Keenan, Teri Slavik-Tsuyuki and Belinda Sward. Following the study, Garman Homes of Cary built a 2,600-square-foot model home based on the study's findings in just 60 days.

The study showed that Americans are now prioritizing cleanliness, safety and flexibility more than ever. Some of the unique features in the home include a vestibule, two home offices, a classroom, a guest suite with a kitchenette and a separate entrance that is perfect for quarantining.

“I think we all did such a great job last year of adapting to our new circumstances, but I love that this plan will help people be flexible in their lives moving forward no matter what that looks like,” said Alaina Money-Garman, founder & CEO of Garman Homes.

Barnaby is expected to be listed at around $400,000. The home recently won a Golden Nugget, an industry award for Best Flexible Home Design.
