CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A sport popular in the 1970's is making a comeback in Charlotte. One woman recognized the trend and decided to start holding pop-up events.

Terah Shiflett is one of many people who started quad roller skating during the pandemic.

“I was just thinking of something to do during the pandemic,” Shiflett says. “I saw people on quads, and I decided, well, let's give that a try.”

She now goes out a few times a week, usually on her lunch break.

“It’s just fun to be outdoors, and the weather is warming up now,” Shiflett says.

She’s not alone. Carmen Scott noticed the popular trend as well.

“I was trying to purchase skates and it took three months,” Scott says. “I eventually got them, but it took a long time.”

Scott realized this trend was really taking off and decided to create a place for skaters to ride together. She started the company Screamin’ Wheels and Blades and was shocked when her first event sold out in 24-hours.

“I was like, oh my, Charlotte is ready,” Scott says.

The next event with tickets still available is April 24. To find out more visit her website.
