JAMESTOWN, N.C. — Roland Farabee Jr. says he's just doing his job, delivering packages to the residents of Jamesford Meadows.
Katie Gummerson, however, says he brings much more.
“He is just always smiling. He loves kids. He always honks at them. He loves dogs. He leaves a milk bone on every package, and he’s just a joy to be around, and he just makes you feel happy,” Gumerson says.
That's why she and her neighbors got together to surprise Farabee with a "tunnel of love."
They made signs, shirts, and parked along the road so he could drive through, with everyone cheering him on.
“Just shock. Just total shock. I couldn’t believe the whole neighborhood just lined up like I was president or something, all on the side, had balloons. Just like what in the world is going on?” Farabee says.
The neighbors also put together a gift basket, filled with some of his favorite things, like a Lakers jersey.
"It is the best day on the job so far. This is awesome. I’m still just in shock. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe little old me gets all this right here. All this fuss for me and I’m just doing my job. That’s it. That’s all I do,” Farabee says.
