CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On Wednesday, January 6, Atrium Health says it will begin offering the first round of COVID-19 vaccines to the public.
The administration of the vaccine to the community comes as North Carolina moves into Phase 1b, Group 1 of its vaccination distribution plan.

Starting at 7 a.m., patients ages 75 and older will be eligible to receive their vaccination under the new phase.
“Atrium Health is proud to have been among the first in the nation to receive and distribute the initial vaccine allotments, which is critically necessary to slow the spread and lessen the detrimental effects of the virus,” the Charlotte-based health care system said in a statement Tuesday. “The health system has worked to develop comprehensive plans to safely and effectively distribute the vaccine, as vaccination is the best way to prevent infection from COVID-19. In the Charlotte area alone, over 10,200 Atrium Health teammates have received their first dose of the vaccine as part of Phase 1a.”

Atrium says communications, which began on Monday, January 4, have already gone out to more than 160,000 qualifying patients about scheduling their appointment for receiving the vaccine.
Appointments can be made online through the patient’s MyAtriumHealth account or by phone. Atrium says appointments are required due to current supply and storage requirements.
