RALEIGH, N.C. – Many businesses are still recovering from the shutdown initiated by the state earlier this year.
Heading into flu season and an expected surge in Covid cases, many businesses are preparing now in case they are forced to close their doors again.
Pinup Studio is a beauty salon, but walking into it is like walking into a winter wonderland.
“We went with a Candyland glam Christmas theme,” said owner Christina Kirkey. “We really just wanted to create a place where people could come and escape the madness of 2020.”
The all-out design is on purpose.
With an unknown future ahead due to Covid, the team is doing everything possible to get people in the doors while they can.
“You can’t really gameplan or figure out anything because it is so up and down,” Kirkey said. “ We have one month where we are busy and the next month cases are rising, so people get nervous and we get a lot of cancellations.”
The team is offering goody bags to their clients as well as a coupon to use at the salon next year.
They are also holding live sales for their hair products, much like clothing boutiques.
“I think if any business owner can make it thru 2020, they can make thru just about anything,” Kirkey said. “You gotta learn from it and figure out how to pivot.”
