RALEIGH, N.C. -- Leaf & Limb tree service is on a mission to curb tree loss and the company is asking for your help to do it.
Its initiative, named "Project Pando," is a volunteer-driven tree farm that sustainably grows native trees to give to the public for free.
In order to grow the trees, Leaf & Limb is asking people to help collect 100,000 native North Carolina seeds by the end of 2020.
Leaf & Limb Founder Basil Camu says the tree canopy is disappearing across the state.
"When you look at some of the statistics, they are pretty depressing," Camu says. "Every two seconds, we cut down down a football field worth of trees."
For example, Charlotte lost 8% of its tree canopy from 2012 to 2018, according to a study from the University of Vermont.
Even once Leaf & Limb collects 100,000 seeds, it's going to keep collecting, planting and growing trees.
"There's so much going on in the world. Trees, to me, are a simple act that everyone can do that will have a very long lasting impact," says Emmanuel Brown, Leaf & Limb's director of special projects.
If you want to help, you can find more info on Leaf & Limb's website or you can collect seeds and drop them off at Leaf & Limb's location in Raleigh on Nowell Road.
