CLEMMONS, N.C. — Monday marked the official opening of the 29th Annual Tanglewood Festival of Lights display in Winston-Salem.

  • Due to COVID-19, this year the festival will be drive-thru style only to follow social distancing guidelines and limited crowd interaction.

  • The park is expecting larger than normal crowds this year, where annually the average attendance is 250,000.

  • The festival of lights is open 6 pm to 11 pm each night gates are open.
  • Due to the increased number of expected guests event coordinators are asking people to come on slower nights which are Monday through Thursday and their busier nights are Friday through Sunday.

 

Due to COVID-19, this year the festival will be drive-thru style only to follow social distancing guidelines and limited crowd interaction. The park is expecting larger than normal crowds this year, where annually the average attendance is 250,000.

However, set up for the event takes a lot of work. In fact there is 1,000,000 LED lights that are installed to make it happen. According to Brandi Chappell, the marketing and events manager for Forsyth County Parks and Recreation, set-up starts as early as August.  

“It takes about 60 days for the pulling out of the lights, inspecting of the lights to displaying the lights and getting them all set up. it takes over 6500 man hours to be able to put the entire show on," Chappell explained.
