HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — The Rural Hill Amazing Maize Maze revamped its ticketing and map system for the 2020 season as a COVID-19 precaution.

To get into the maze, you must buy your tickets online and give your name at the check-in, so there is no ticket exchange.

Your tickets come with a time slot that is limited to 50 people at a time.

Paper maps have also been replaced with an app for your phone. The app can also be used to scan QR codes to guide you through the maze.

In 2019, Rural Hills’ spring events, the Highland Games and Brewer’s Festival, were cut short or canceled for bad weather.

A five week drought also meant canceling their corn maze.

Jessica Bustamante, executive director for Rural Hill, says she hopes being an outdoor activity that is open during the week will bring in the crowds they need to stay open for next year.

“This maze represents a whole lot for us.This is likely going to be our only fundraiser for 2020”, says Bustamante.

The Amazing Maize Maze is open seven days a week through October 31.
