Central Piedmont Community College and Queens University in Charlotte launched the “Royal Up” program.

Students who enroll in the program will take their first two years of classes at CPCC and will finish their bachelor's degree at Queens. Students who maintain a 2.5 GPA or above will also be guaranteed admission and a $10,000 annual scholarship at Queens.

Daniel Lugo, the president of Queens University, says this will help students fulfill their potential while also helping them save some money.

“Time and time again we hear about four-year colleges, private colleges in particular, struggling to connect with two-year community colleges to create robust pipelines between their institutions,” Lugo says. “Well today in Charlotte, because of this partnership, we closed and erased that gap.”

Dr. Kandi Deitemeyer, the Central Piedmont president, agrees. “This partnership is a great example of the higher-education community in Charlotte working together to build more avenues to greater economic mobility,” she says.
