RALEIGH, N.C. – The “V” Foundation Victory Ride raises money for a cure for cancer. Cyclists hop on their bikes and pedal miles and miles for donations.
For some, like Dr. Louis Vaickus, the August heat doesn’t stop them from their cause.
Vaickus is an oncologist and victory rider, who’s also a family member and friend.
“I'll do 102 miles this month so people can pony up the money. If I do 204, I want to double down. And if I do 306, I want them to triple their donation to the victory ride,” says Vaickus.
The more miles they ride, the more money they make and the more lives are being saved.
“We've made great strides in the last 20 or 30 years, but we have a lot more to do,” Vaickus adds.
This year, the victory ride is virtual. Some people are riding alone to raise money.
The last couple years, thousands of people lined up and rode to raise the money. Although 2020’s ride is different, the goal is the same; cure cancer.
Vaickus says a solo ride is nothing compared to what cancer patients have gone through.
