NORTH CAROLINA – The pandemic has closed summer sports parks across the state, but little by little they're beginning to open back up.

The Village Park Splash Pad opened up on July 14, allowing 20 people to play in the water at a time during 90-minute increments.

When the 90 minutes are up, splash pad staff clean and sanitize the facility before the next 20 kids enter to play.

Sommers Blake, a mother of three, says she brought her kids to the splash pad to cool off.

“We’re stuck inside all the time and it just stinks that they can’t get out and do the things that they love to do. It's nice to just just watch them run around and play, and enjoy the summer finally,” Blake said.

A person may reserve up to eight sports per time slot. Admission is $1 per person per slot. You can contact the Kannapolis City Parks and Recreation Department to make your reservation.
