NORTH CAROLINA -- An IBM survey of 14,000 people finds they will use personal transportation more and public transit, or ridesharing, less after the pandemic.

Of those who regularly use public transportation like trains, buses, and subways, 20 percent say they will no longer use those services. Another 28 percent said they will use public transit less frequently.

However, while some say it is not the healthiest way to get around, they have no other option.

"That's how I get to work, go get food, go places and such," said one woman Spectrum News spoke to. "If you can't find another way, you have to get on public transportation."

Ridesharing services don't look much more appealing to survey participants. More than half say they'll use those services less or not at all.

While more than 17 percent of survey-takers say they intend to use their personal vehicle more, about a quarter said lack of confidence in the economy will impact their decision to buy a car.
