CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Change could be coming to Discovery Place in uptown Charlotte.
City leaders are considering renovating the museum or demolishing it and starting from scratch again. The building was built back in 1981 and has become a top attraction, but as the City of Charlotte continues to grow, leaders are looking to make it big enough for the future.
"When we look at other STEM-based museums like that, they are significantly changing so that they are more agile and more flexible. If we have to tear down to build what's right then that's what we do," Mayor Vi Lyles said.
An Imax theater was added to the building in 1991.
