HICKORY, N.C. -- Neighbors in Hickory's Ridgeview community say they're excited the Ridgeview Library, built in 1998, is expanding. Ridgeview is historically and presently, a predominantly black neighborhood.

Last year, Hickory City Coucil approved renovations to the library, which include a communitny room and individual group space.

Hickory Council Member David Williams said he has been working hard to get changes happening in Ridgeview.

"All sides of this city are being touched, and this is an example of it. This is an example, how we're becoming a progressive city, if you looks around, our downtown, our business park, this is just another example of how we as a city are moving forward, being progressive," Williams said.

The city does not know yet if the library will have to close during the project.

The branch sees about 3,600 visitors a month.
