CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- UNC Charlotte's football team is about to make school history. Tomorrow the team will play in its first ever bowl game against Buffalo in the Bahamas Bowl.

One fan of the team has been cheering it on since the beginning of the football journey.

Carroll York played for the Charlotte Center of University of North Carolina Owls, the first collegiate football team in Charlotte, from 1946 to 1948.

"I think we won two games that first year," York said with a laugh.

He also has fond memories of his time with the Owls.

"We played Presbyterian, and I recovered a fumble in the end zone. Then I caught a 55 yard pass," York said.

He transferred to Clemson to finish college but always kept a love for UNC Charlotte. Now, he goes to every home football game he can.

Although he isn't making the trip to the Bahamas to cheer on the football team, he has a message for the coaches and players as they look to finish their historic season.

"Play like you wanna win the game," York said. "It'll be a special game for a first bowl game for the team. Just play hard."

If you want to join other fans to watch the game, NODA Brewing Company is hosting a watch party. The tailgate starts at 12 p.m. and kickoff is at 2 p.m.
