CHARLOTTE, N.C. --  The hospital can be a scary place for anyone, especially for children and those with special needs. One woman from Rock Hill, South Carolina decided to take her daughter's experience and turn it into a story to help other families.

Jeryl Christmas is a children's book author. Her daughter, Haley, has become an inspiration for her books. Haley has hypotonic cerebral palsy, and over the summer, went to the hospital for surgery.

Jeryl took their experience and turned it into a book called Me and Jubilee. She says the book is a tool for parents to show their kids that the hospital isn't a scary place, it's a place where doctors help you get better.

"The idea was for children going into the hospital for the first time, to be put at ease. The first page, Haley says 'Are you nervous seeing doctors, or sometimes are you scared? Then let me tell you of my time, to help you be prepared.' And that's the whole purpose of the book," Jeryl said.

The book centers around her daughter’s experience with Jubilee Brown, MD, with Atrium Health’s Levine Cancer Institute.

You can buy paperback versions of the book online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Books-A-Million. If you would like to purchase a hard-cover book, you can email Jeryl at jchristmas1234@gmail.com or visit her website
