CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The turkey is all gone, and now it's time to head back home after a long Thanksgiving weekend.
- Arrive at least two hours before your flight to check-in, clear security, and make it through crowds.
- Northeastern storms are causing major delays.
- If picking someone up, wait in the cell phone lot to save time.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport says the Sunday after Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel days of the year. If you are going through the airport, there may be some hurdles to getting home.
Normally you'd need to get to the airport an hour before a domestic flight. Today however, give yourself two hours before you board to make it through the crowds.
Also, be sure to check your flight details. Storms in the northeast are causing major delays.
Broderick Hood and his wife Mona were headed to a cruise leaving Los Angeles, but their flight was cancelled.
Their one saving grace? Insurance on every stage of the trip.
“My wife decided to get insurance on the cruise and the flight so everything is covered,” said Hood. “So the only thing we’re going to miss out on is going on the cruise ship out of California.”
Millions of people will also be traveling on the roads Sunday, so give yourself extra time there as well.
If you’re picking someone up from the airport you can save yourself some time by waiting in the cell phone lot.
You can wait there until you know your passenger is out with their bag.
