NORTH CAROLINA — Residents of the final two closed-off Dare County villages will be allowed to reenter this week.

Residents of Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo on Hatteras Island were allowed to return at noon Tuesday. Residents of Avon and northern areas of Buxton were allowed to return at noon Wednesday.

Unrestricted access to the villages of Frisco and Hatteras begin at noon Thursday, county officials said Wednesday.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore and all National Park Service facilities on Ocracoke and Hatteras remain closed.

Mandatory evacuations are coming in for the North Carolina coast ahead of impacts from Hurricane Dorian.

Although the storm's trajectory is unclear, officials want coastal residents to take proper precautions. 

Gov. Cooper has issued a mandatory evacuation for all North Carolina islands.

The mandatory evacuations issued by cities/towns/counties are as follows:

  • Beaufort, N.C. 
  • Dare County
  • New Hanover County
  • Atlantic Beach
  • Surf City
  • North Topsail
  • Emerald Isle

The voluntary evacuations issued by cities/towns/counties are as follows:

  • Onslow County
  • Belville
  • Carteret County 
  • Swansboro
