CHARLOTTE, NC -- The City of Charlotte is in the midst of one of its most violent years yet with 69 homicides in just eight months. While most of the cases have seen arrests, some are still open.
- There are 16 cases that are considered open
- CMPD says they have a 70 percent closure rate for this year
- Investigators say people with information need to come forward to put a suspect behind bars
Investigatros with CMPD say there are 16 cases that are considered open: some are under review by the district attorney or they may have identified suspects, but charges are still pending.
Lieutenant Bryan Crum with CMPD says they have a 70 percent closure rate for this year, and they're hoping to increase that number with the public's help.
Lt. Crum says in some of the unsolved cases, people with information need to come forward to put a suspect behind bars.
"It's a tough thing to do sometimes when you know somebody's out there that may be dangerous, and to be the person that steps up from a community when several people may know what happened. It's always hard to be the first person to step up and do the right thing," he said.
