NORTH CAROLINA -- A new online study lists the deadliest highways for summer travel in each of the 50 states.

  • For North Carolina, Interstate 40 ranked number one with more than 60 crashes.

Asecurelife.com looked at deadly traffic crashes from the May to September months between 2015 and 2017. For North Carolina, Interstate 40 ranked number one with more than 60 crashes. Interstate 85 placed second with 50 crashes. U.S. Route 64 came in third with 40 crashes. 

"I do know you have to stay on your toes at all times going down I-40. You can't relax a minute," said Reggie Williams, who often drives across the state for his job.
