DURHAM, N.C. – Friday marks one month since a deadly gas explosion devastated the Bull City.

  • It has been one month since the Durham explosion.
  • Two people died as a result.
  • Traffic around the explosion site only recently returned to normal.

The explosion was caused by a gas leak outside of Kaffeinate Coffee Shop on April 10.

One month later, the death toll sits at two:
  • Kong Lee, who owned Kaffeinate Coffee Shop, where the explosion happened, was trying to warn others not to come to the shop because of the gas leak when he was killed in the explosion.
  • Jay Rambeaut died at the hospital a couple of weeks later after being in a coma for many days. He was trying to stop the leak at the time of the explosion.

More than 20 others were injured in the blast and aftermath, including firefighters.

North Duke Street, which runs in front of the building, only just reopened Thursday.

The investigation into who was to blame for the explosion is ongoing.
