SOUTH CAROLINA -- South Carolina may bring back the electric chair.

Thursday, state senators passed a bill to make electrocution the primary execution method and would give inmates the option to choose a firing squad.

The state now uses lethal injection. The bill is heading the house, where a similar proposal died last year.

Since 1995, it has been up to inmates to choose lethal injection or electrocution in the state, which held its last electrocution in 2008. South Carolina hasn't carried out an execution overall since 2011.
