CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- After two CMS students took their own lives last year, school leaders came together to prevent another tragedy from happening.

A student at Providence High School and one at Hough High School both committed suicide on the same day in February 2018.
"We'd had a lot of close calls, but when I heard, it was absolutely devastating," says Dr. Laura Rosenbach, the principal at Hough High School.
"Where do we go from here? We were all really lost, and it was, 'How do we take an entire student body that needs to heal, and do just that, heal them,'" says Mckenzie Martin, a senior at Hough.
The principals of both schools started the suicide prevention program called Sources of Strength. The program is designed to help students change unhealthy habits, and connect teens to help others through times of crisis.
"The school is doing something, and things are happening to make [students] feel better, and they can come here and end up feeling better at the end of the day," says Chloe Crawford, a sophomore at Hough.
Both schools now haven permanent artwork in the halls as part of the project to remind students they are accepted at school.
