NORTH CAROLINA -- Some state lawmakers say improving conditions for state prison employees is a top priority.
- A report found 80 percent of correctional officers feel they don't have the same benefits state troopers and police officers are afforded.
- Many prison workers disclosed they feared going to work.
- Officials say the Department of Public Safety needs to do a better job of showcasing all the changes they are making to their employees.
The State Employees Association of North Carolina released findings in a report Wednesday.
That report found 80 percent of correctional officers feel they don't have the same benefits state troopers and police officers are afforded.
Many prison workers disclosed they feared going to work.
State Senator Bob Steinberg of Camden County (R) says that needs to change.
"I think we’re moving in the right direction, and I really expect to see some significant movement this year during this session," said Steinberg.
The chief deputy secretary of adult correction addressed those concerns on Capital Tonight.
