SPENCER, N.C. -- A man died after railroad workers found him pinned under two steel plates Saturday.

The Spencer Fire Department says they received a call at around 11:30 a.m. that a worker was trapped near the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks near the North Carolina Transportation Museum.

When emergency crews got to the scene, officials say the man was already dead. No information has been released about the man's identity, though authorities say he was a privately contracted worker.

The Spencer Police Department and Norfolk Southern are investigating.
