At Least 6 Transported After Fire at Downtown Raleigh High-Rise

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Several people are displaced after a fire broke out inside of a high-rise building Friday afternoon.

Upon arrival, flames could be seen shooting out of one window in the Glenwood Towers Housing complex, an affordable housing community at around 2 p.m.

Wake County EMS says six people have been transported with smoke inhalation. One woman declined to be transported to the hospital.

Update from EMS: Evacuated residents on floors 1 through 7 will start making their way back into the building. After that floor 8 and floors 10 to 14 will be allowed back in. Floor 9 residents are displaced for the night and @RedCross is helping with places to stay. @SpecNewsRDU

It is unclear how the fire started at this time.
