CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- UNC Chapel Hill could expel a Silent Sam protester Friday.

Maya Little, a UNC grad student, smeared red ink mixed with her blood on the Confederate statue back in April. A friend captured video and put it on Twitter.

Supporters held a rally ahead of her UNC Honor Court hearing, which is expected to last at least two days.

Campus police arrested Little and just last week she appeared in an Orange County court for the misdemeanor charge.

A judge found her guilty but didn't punish her in what's called a "prayer for judgment."

The rally wasn't just to show support for Little, but also James Cates. According to the Daily Tar Heel, Cates, who was an African-American man and Chapel Hill native, was stabbed to death in 1970.

Three white men were charged and tried, but found not guilty. As of today, his murder remains unsolved.

The statue remains in a secret location after protesters tore it down in August.

The university has until next month to decide what to do with it.

The court will reconvene Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
