CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA – Former Carolina Panthers player Rae Carruth is set to be released from prison in the next two weeks.

The Department of Public Safety says he will be released from the Sampson Correction Facility on October 22.
In 2001, the former wide receiver was convicted for murdering Cherica Adams, who was 24 at the time.
Adams was also pregnant at the time of the murder. Their son survived, but was born with brain damage and cerebral palsy.
Carruth was sentenced to up to 24 years in prison.
