CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man is accused of boarding a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school bus and attacking the bus driver and a student.
- Tavares Perkins is charged in the incident.
- Police say he went on a school bus, shoving a driver and slapping a student.
- He's charged with assault and trespassing.
Tavares Perkins, 28, is accused of getting on a school bus heading to Albemarle Middle School Wednesday and shoving the bus driver out of the way to get to a student.
CMPD says Perkins got on the bus around 8:30 a.m. as it stopped to pick up students and shoved the bus driver and then slapped a male student.
The boy was not seriously injured. Albemarle Road Middle School’s principal, Toni Perry, sent out a letter to parents that said in part:
"No one was seriously injured, and your student was later brought to school as scheduled. It is a trespassing violation for anyone unauthorized to board a school bus. This matter is now a law enforcement issue."
Perkins faces charges of assault and trespassing.
