UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- Searchers have recovered the body of the 1 year-old who was swept away by floodwaters in Union County.
The search for 1-year-old Kaiden Lee-Welch began Monday along N.C. 218, southeast of New Salem.
Officials said earlier that the child was in a car that apparently washed off the road.
In a Facebook post, the Union County Sheriff's Office said, "Searchers have recovered the body of one year old Kaiden Lee-Welch. Our thoughts and prayers for the little boy’s family and all the search team members and law enforcement officers who helped in this matter. Very sad situation."
Officials gave more details at a press conference Monday afternoon.
