CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Spring is here, and so is the pollen.

People are already feeling allergy season with watery eyes and constant sneezing. While the list of reasons to complain about pollen season is long, experts say we need to appreciate the yellow powder.

Jeff Gillman, the director of the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens, says without pollen, the world would be a lot less colorful.

"The interesting thing about pollen is that same thing that causes the allergy, is also the thing that allows one plant to recognize another plant that can actually fertilize it," Gillman said.

Spectrum News meteorologists say the heavy pollen season will be around for a few weeks, although Sunday's rain will help bring some allergy relief.
