CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say one man is recovering after he was shot on Tuesday morning.

It happened at a home on Butler Road in west Charlotte during what a man who lived there called a break-in.

The man who pulled the trigger, Cordero Ardrey, said he was asleep when he heard someone breaking in the window.

Ardrey says he immediately grabbed his own gun because he didn’t want to end up hurt or worse.

“I was in bed, and he was at the window breaking in the window. It’s as simple as that. He was about in there, and I grabbed my piece and went to work,” said resident Ardrey.

The man who was shot has non life-threatening injuries.

Police say 16-year-old Bryan Franklin was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun by a minor in this incident.
