CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police responded to a shooting on a college campus following a hit-and-run Saturday morning.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Police officers have charged 21-year-old Jaylen Coad with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a stolen firearm and firing a weapon on school grounds.
Police say it all started at a Waffle House on North Tryon Street, a little after 2 a.m. Coad was in a car with three others. That car hit another vehicle in the parking lot.
Police say the suspects took off, and the victim followed. At some point after the pursuit entered the campus of UNC Charlotte, police say Coad shot at the victim who returned fire from his vehicle.
The university says in a statement no one left their vehicles, at any point and that none of the parties involved are UNC Charlotte students.
No one was hurt in the shooting. Police have not made any other arrests.
