ROWAN COUNTY -- Wednesday, organizations around the state will be taking part in the North Carolina point in time count to determine how many residents are living on the streets.

And while Rowan Helping Ministries takes part in the count, they also are using it as an opportunity to encourage those in need to come indoors for help.

Shelter officials say it's not just a place for a warm bed, but their case managers can also help people get on track to live healthy productive lives.

“It’s just getting out there and letting people know that we’re here,” says Sherry Smith. “And should you decide to just come and let us help, you get back to living.”

In order to stay at Rowan Helping Ministries shelter all you need is an ID and you must be sober.

The organization also has other programs for those in difficult financial situations.
