GARNER -- The Ku Klux Klan left recruitment materials on several doorsteps in a Garner neighborhood over the Christmas weekend.
Several homes in the Hillandale and Foxhaven neighborhoods received a bag with a business card from the East Coast Knights of the True Invisible Empire and a flyer with slogans such as "White Pride Doesn't Mean Hate" and "Save Our Land, Join the Klan." The Southern Poverty Law Center classifies that group as a chapter of the KKK.
A phone call to the number left on the business card went to a voicemail belonging to the chapter.
Nyles Fleming lives next to one of the homes that received the flyer. Fleming, who is black, says it's alarming to see KKK-affiliated materials show up in his neighborhood.
"I definitely think there's a conversation that needs to be had," said Fleming. "Clearly someone knows there are black families living here; my driveway was skipped and no propaganda flyers were put in my driveway. I just hope everybody takes situations like this seriously."
The Wake County Sheriff's Office said they were unaware of the flyers.
