A Charlotte nonprofit called Answer Scholarship is helping local moms achieve their higher education dreams.

This year, Answer Scholarship provided scholarships to 16 mothers.

Consuella Harge, currently enrolled at UNC Charlotte, is one of those recipients.

“It's a perfect 2nd chance, and normally you don't get these 2nd chances!” she said.

Harge told us she first started college in 2001, but due to abusive relationships, she never finished.

She’s now a mother of 2 children – a 10-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl.

Harge said being a full-time mom and full-time college student is challenging.
“It's a 24 hour, 7 day a week job,” she said.

But thanks to the scholarship, she can now pursue her dream of becoming an actuary.

The founder of Answer Scholarship said, “It does seem daunting, but yes you can do this. We've had 54 women come through our program, and they've all been in school full time. They've all had mentors. And it's so worth it.”
