The Mayor wants more homeless shelters on Staten Island, but he seems unaware there already is one.
During an appearance on NY1's Road to City Hall Monday Night, DeBlasio had this to say about his plan to open shelters in communities that need them most.
"Staten Island for example has well over 1000 folks in shelter but there's not a single permanent shelter on Staten Island. We have to put one in, or maybe several to accommodate it," he said.
Staten Island does in fact have a shelter in St. George, run by Project Hospitality.
A spokesman for the Mayor said "The Mayor was pointing out that Staten Island's homeless population exceeds its current shelter capacity. Our plan aims to change that and keep homeless families closer to their schools and jobs."
