CONCORD, N.C. – Charlotte Motor Speedway might look a little different this year.

Stands along the fourth turn are in the process of being torn down.

According to SEC filings, some seats may be removed this year in hopes of offering wider seating, improved sightlines or other marketing or development purposes.

Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau President Donna Carpenter said it is unknown what the plans are for the area yet but she is optimistic about the changes.

“You know, our visitor spending has increased double digits even during the times when they’ve taken out seats so we don’t foresee this having any kind of negative affect on the visitor’s experience from the visitor’s perspective,” said Carpenter.

In a statement, Charlotte Motor Speedway said, “We are constantly looking at ways to modernize our facility and enhance the fan experience. We’ll have details to share on our latest innovation projects at a later date.”
