HIGHMOUNT, N.Y. -- Ski season is in full swing throughout New York State and the people at Belleayre Mountain are welcoming families with open arms.
Several trails and lifts are opening this week for skiers and snow-boarders to hit the slopes.
Employees says last year's weather didn't make for great skiing, but this year is already looking much better.
"We've had some good nights, down in the teens and in the negatives for the last week and a half," said Tim Maxwell, Belleayre Mountain Ski Center general manager. "When it gets that low we can really crank out a lot of snow. Obviously the rain will set us back a day or so, but we've got a lot of great modern technology that helps up battle mother nature more than we could 20 years ago. "
Right now about half of the 50 trails at the mountain are open.
