ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. – The Rowan County Sheriff's Office gave a timeline of events leading up to the discovery of Erica Parsons’ remains.
Authorities shared the timeline and key details of their case during a news conference Monday afternoon at the Rowan County Courthouse.
Erica Parsons was reported missing in 2013, but had not been seen since 2011.
The sheriff said their investigation took a major turn in July and August when investigators began talking with Erica's adoptive father, Sandy Parsons.
He led investigators to her remains last week. The sheriff also said even though Erica's remains have been recovered they still have a long way to go before this case is over.
“The burning question I know is when is somebody going to be arrested. Well that’s where we are in hopes that the medical examiner will soon give us information that will lead us to the decision on what charges are appropriate and at this time we feel like all those charges will be a state matter here in Rowan County,” said Sheriff Keith Auten.
Both Sandy Parsons and his wife, Casey, are serving time in federal prison for receiving adoption assistance for the girl after she disappeared.
During the news conference, Sheriff Auten also made a point to let people know that funeral arrangements are in the works.
Funeral services have been donated by Lyerlys Funeral Home and a plot has been donated by West Lawn Memorial Park for the funeral. But they still need help getting an angel marker for Erica. If you would like to donate you can send a donation to Prevent Child Abuse Rowan County for Erica's Angel.
Their address is 130 Woodson Street Salisbury, NC 28144.
