CHARLOTTE -- A 7-year-old Charlotte boy is back home and recovering after three dogs attacked him.

Noah Bertrand was walking home on Friday after getting off a school bus when the attack happened.

Neighbors in the Madison Park community said it’s been two days but they're still trying to cope with what they saw and heard.

“It was traumatic for all of us,” Sandy Stumpf said.

“His face and his legs… it was just the scariest thing I've ever seen,” Erin O’Hare said.

The neighbors said three loose bull terriers came out of nowhere and started attacking Noah and his mother, Liz, who got on the ground to try to save her son.

Noah was rushed to the hospital. He underwent surgery and came back home Sunday evening.

His father posted updates on his Facebook page: "[Noah] slept well and is getting up more often now to start to walk around. His main complaints are related to the (normal) swelling around his eyes."

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the dogs returned home after the attack, and their owner agreed to surrender them to Animal Care and Control.

However, neighbors say it's still concerning that the dogs came out of nowhere with no owner and no collars, but ready to attack.

“I mean it was something out of a horror movie,” said O’Hare. “The way they kind of slowly galloped off into the woods. It was just so eerie to watch these giant, uncollared white dogs.”

Police say investigators are looking into what charges would be appropriate in the case.
