BUNNLEVEL- Thompson Road is now partially closed to drivers.

Flood waters washed out a chunk of it Thursday morning.

"Looks kind of bad. I hope nobody comes through here not paying attention," says Tab Davis, who lives nearby and wanted to check out the scene for himself.

NC DOT crews say it could be weeks before the road reopens. They have to wait for the water to go down, repair the pipe that runs underneath and then rebuild the road. No word yet on the estimated cost of repairs.

Davis says he uses the road about three to four times a week.

"Oh it's very important. It's a cutoff coming from Bunnlevel to Lillington, and Lillington is about the closest town around here."

He says he's not looking forward to spending the gas to take a detour.

"Because we don't have stuff like this around the area. More like a shock than anything else."
