CHARLOTTE -- The afternoon storm that came through the Charlotte area left a lot of damage in its path, from downed trees to power outages.  There were also several reports of wrecks, but nothing too major.

A massive tree came crashing down in Myers Park Wednesday afternoon, right in between two homes.

"Lucky it didn't hit dead center," said Joe Cadieu with Cadieu Tree Experts. "It went down the driveway."

The couple who lives in the home most impacted wasn't home at the time, but their next door neighbor heard it all.

"Tremendously loud crash, and cracking noise," said Karen Trigg, whose home suffered minor damage. "Like a big clap of thunder almost. I came down to fix lunch and the storm came up about the same time, and it probably happened within 15 minutes of the storm starting."

That burst of severe weather also knocked down another tree on Ardsley Road.

"It felt like a hurricane was coming through, and we started to hear some cracking and looked outside and the tree in front of our property fell over and almost landed on one of my workers," said Mark Huberman, a home builder who was working on the house.

The strong winds also brought down a tree on Wild Rose Lane. The Red Cross is helping the family of four who lived there. None of them were injured when the tree fell and damaged the home.

"Nobody got hurt, that's the main thing," said Cadieu.

Now it's up to thankful residents to begin to clean up and rebuild.
