ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Penfield Symphony Orchestra hit a historic high note Monday night. Organizers are celebrating 60 years of bringing harmony to the community.

They held a commemorative concert to highlight Penfield's history as the oldest of Rochester’s community orchestras. What started in 1955 as the Penfield Community Orchestra has grown to more than 70 members at times.

"For a small town this is an amazing treasure to have an orchestra of this quality. Absolutely amazing," said Carol Lowne, President of Penfield Symphony Orchestra. "This is a very high quality, high performance orchestra."

The company's website says at least 30 conductors have led the PSO since it began. David Harman is starting his 16th consecutive season as Music Director, which makes him the longest to serve in that position.
