STATESVILLE, N.C. - Students at South Iredell High School have set up a gofundme page for nearly two dozen students who got hurt when a concrete awning collapsed on them at North Iredell High School Saturday.
The South Iredell students were there for a band competition.
The head drum major created the page to support the students many of whom have broken bones, but she's also making sure those not physically injured are also taken care of.
"A lot of kids right now are just really traumatized by what happened, and all of us have been working really hard to calm each other down,” Julia Moore, head drum major, said. “We've been calling each other, texting, and doing anything to make sure that everybody's ok.”
Many of the students caught under the awning have broken bones and according to the gofundme page, one of the students had to get their leg amputated.
Students at South Iredell High School are being asked to wear white to school Monday in support of those students.
North Iredell High School's superintendent is still not sure whether school will open on Monday.
He said an engineer will check the site to make sure everything is safe before it opens again.
