CHARLOTTE-- Pleading not guilty. It's an answer Sonia Funderburk did not want to hear from a man whom police believe killed her son Davion Funderburk.

Sonia told Time Warner Cable News right after the court appearance “I'm just numb right now.”

Davion Funderburk was shot and killed two years ago along with a 23-year-old woman. That shooting also injured two other people. Then a week later in July 2013, police arrested Levi Johnson, Jr.

Sonia said “It's been rough. It's really been rough. I have had sleepless nights. This was a senseless murder.”

On Thursday, prosecutors offered Johnson a plea deal for the murder and attempted murder charges he faces. But Johnson maintained his innocence, which means there will be a trial.

Sonia said “Yes, I'm going to have to re-live it all over again. I am. That's what I didn't want to do.”

Now, the family and friends are hoping for justice and that no other young people will lose their lives to gun violence.

Mario Black started Million Youth March of Charlotte after the shooting death of Davion. He said “It breaks my heart. You know, as a native of Charlotte, born and raised here, I never thought that I'd see a community, my city that I love, in a state that we are in, and we are in a state emergency.”

Johnson’s family was in court on Thursday as well. His attorney said they could not talk on camera.
